Mazda is giving the Mazda 6e a significant update for the 2027 model year, with a particular focus on charging. A new 78 kWh LFP battery is expected to deliver up to 560 km of WLTP range and, for the first time, DC charging at up to 200 kW. The update also includes software and driver-assistance improvements, revised suspension tuning and new trim levels.

South Korea is significantly expanding its fast-charging network at highway rest areas: 131 new DC chargers are planned across 29 locations, most rated at 200 kW. Of particular interest to Tesla drivers, a large share of the new charging points will feature NACS connectors, along with Plug&Charge for automatic charging and payment.

Volvo is enabling Vehicle-to-Load on the EX30 via an over-the-air update, turning the compact electric SUV into a mobile power outlet. Plug & Charge will also be available at compatible fast chargers from model year 2026, allowing charging to start without an app or charging card. A new context bar and redesigned settings menu will also make the infotainment system easier to use.

Estonia is equipping a key ferry route between the mainland and its islands with megawatt charging infrastructure. Plans call for up to 5 MW of charging power at each port and a new battery-electric ferry with around 3 MWh of capacity, scheduled to enter service in late 2028.

Hyundai is cutting the cost of converting several models into taxis, with particularly significant savings for the all-electric Ioniq 5. The complete package, including a vehicle wrap, now costs €1,000 from conversion partner Intax, while the package without a wrap costs €750. Hyundai is also expanding its taxi offering with a replacement vehicle service for periods when a car is out of action.

Kia is pricing the EV3 in the US at the same level as the Niro Hybrid, while the outgoing Niro EV was significantly more expensive. It also offers two battery sizes, up to around 517 km of range, and a built-in NACS charging port for using Tesla Superchargers without an adapter.

According to BYD, it has installed 10,000 ultra-fast chargers delivering up to 1,500 kW in just five months. The network currently covers 325 cities in China and is set to expand to 20,000 stations by the end of the year, including highway locations. At the same time, BYD is planning thousands of charging points in Europe, reigniting the debate over 800-volt technology and real-world charging times.
