2027 Mazda 6e: Focus on Charging and Everyday Usability
Mazda is giving the Mazda 6e a major update for the 2027 model year, even though the electric midsize sedan has only been available in Germany since 2025. The focus is on a new battery, significantly improved DC charging performance, and refinements to the software, driver-assistance systems and suspension. This is particularly relevant for customers because it is intended to address a known weakness of the current 6e: charging performance on longer journeys.
New 78 kWh LFP Battery, Up to 560 km WLTP
Mazda is replacing the previous 68.8 kWh and 80 kWh battery packs with a new lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 78 kWh. Mazda quotes a range of up to 560 km (WLTP) and combined standardized energy consumption of 16.1 kWh/100 km. For comparison, the previous long-range 6e achieved 552 km WLTP, while the smaller-battery version managed 479 km WLTP.
What LFP Means in Everyday Use
In many cases, LFP offers robust cell chemistry and tends to reduce reliance on critical raw materials. Depending on the vehicle strategy, LFP can also facilitate higher charging limits in everyday use. However, the key factor will be how Mazda has calibrated the thermal management and charging curve.
Up to 200 kW DC: 10 to 80% in a Claimed 24 Minutes
The biggest step forward concerns fast charging: The new battery is expected to support DC charging at up to 200 kW. Mazda quotes 24 minutes for charging from 10 to 80% under ideal conditions. This is precisely the range that makes a difference on long journeys and during charging stops.
Charging performance was a frequent criticism of the previous Mazda 6e because the power could sometimes drop noticeably at an early stage. The previous long-range version was also significantly limited on paper and took around 47 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. Real-world testing will be needed to determine whether the new 6e merely reaches 200 kW as a peak or maintains it across a sufficiently stable charging curve.

Driver Assistance and Controls: Lane Keeping, Voice Functions and Navigation with Charging Planning
Alongside the hardware, Mazda is also upgrading the driver-assistance systems. The lane-keeping assist system will be recalibrated for the 2027 model year and is intended to intervene more gently. The enhanced CTS steering assistance will operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h.
For the infotainment system, Mazda has announced updates to the 14.6-inch touchscreen and voice functions. These are expected to include revised wording, additional languages, and improvements to speech recognition and text-to-speech—features that matter in everyday use when drivers want to avoid navigating menus while on the move.
The navigation system is also set to become more practical: It will display charging stations, including their availability, and can suggest suitable charging points when the battery level is low. Drivers will also be able to define desired charge levels for charging stops and the destination, providing charging planning that is closer to what many drivers expect from modern EV route planners.
Suspension, Regenerative Braking and a New Comfort Feature for Pets
For the 2027 model year, Mazda has also announced changes to accelerator response, improved acceleration and a stronger regenerative-braking setting. New spring rates, revised damper tuning and recalibrated power steering are intended to further optimize comfort and driving feel.
A new Pet Comfort Mode will also be introduced: When the vehicle is left briefly, the selected interior temperature can be maintained. This is particularly useful for short stops in everyday life, but it is, of course, no substitute for taking proper care when leaving animals in a car, especially in hot weather.
Pricing and Equipment: Takumi from €47,490
The Mazda 6e (2027) will start at €47,490 in Germany in Takumi trim. The Homura Plus and Takumi Plus versions will each cost €49,490. When the Mazda 6e launched in 2025, prices started at €44,900.
The trim lineup will be expanded with Homura Plus as a sportier option, while Takumi Plus will also be available with white or light-brown seat upholstery. The price increase is evident, but for many buyers the additional technology could deliver value in exactly the right areas: faster charging, better route planning and more relaxed driver assistance.
