Weather Forces Tesla to Postpone the Event
Tesla has postponed the presentation of the new Roadster at short notice from October 1 to October 15, 2026. The company monitored weather conditions together with meteorologists and ultimately decided against the original date.
Guests had already been advised that a key part of the event would have to take place outdoors. Poor weather could therefore make a change of date necessary.
The postponement points to a practical demonstration, but does not yet confirm rocket thrusters or any other spectacular technology.
Why Does the Roadster Show Have to Take Place Outdoors?
A conventional vehicle unveiling could easily be held inside a venue. For the Roadster, however, Tesla is likely planning a dynamic demonstration requiring a long closed-off track and sufficient safety clearance.
Elon Musk has previously said that the production vehicle’s capabilities would have to be demonstrated live so that footage would not be mistaken for AI-generated video. That would be consistent with a high-speed demonstration, but until the presentation takes place, it remains a claim without independent verification.
A temporary airspace closure over SpaceX’s test facility in McGregor, Texas, fueled additional speculation. However, no direct connection with the Roadster event has been confirmed.
SpaceX Package Remains the Biggest Uncertainty
Musk has repeatedly suggested that the Roadster could offer an optional SpaceX package featuring cold-gas thrusters. This is intended to enable the vehicle to reach nearly 100 km/h in less than one second. It remains unclear whether this technology will actually be presented in a near-production form.
Cold-gas thrusters would rapidly expel compressed gas to generate additional thrust. Such a demonstration would require substantial safety clearances → making an open-air presentation correspondingly plausible.

Roadster Gets a More Angular Design
A recent teaser suggests that the production model will look noticeably different from the red prototype unveiled in 2017. It showed a full-width light bar at the front, similar to the one used on the updated Tesla Model Y.
The rear fenders also appear more angular and sculpted. Tesla also holds intellectual property rights for active aerodynamic solutions, including an adjustable rear wing. However, a patent does not prove that the technology in question will actually enter series production.
What the New Roadster Means for Tesla
The Roadster is not intended to be a high-volume model, but rather a technological flagship. It would be positioned clearly above the Tesla Model S in the product lineup and could demonstrate the performance Tesla considers possible with electric power and new aerodynamics.
Reservations were reopened worldwide ahead of the presentation. A place in the queue requires a deposit of $50,000. This does not yet provide a reliable indication of the final price in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, while binding details about the start of deliveries, type approval, and regional availability also remain unavailable.
The two-week postponement is hardly significant given the years-long wait for the Roadster. The more interesting question is whether Tesla will actually present production-ready technology on October 15 or initially stage a spectacular demonstration that still requires further development.
