BMW is planning its first electric 1 Series for 2028. Called the BMW i1, it will be offered alongside combustion-engine and plug-in hybrid versions. Intriguingly, the i1 is expected to use a dedicated EV platform while visually mirroring the 1 Series and likely featuring rear-wheel drive. A rear motor producing up to 240 kW and a potentially much more powerful all-wheel-drive option are under discussion.

BMW has opened pre-sales in China for the new Neue Klasse iX3 and reportedly collected tens of thousands of pre-orders in the first week alone. At the same time, there is an unusual problem: demonstrator vehicles will be missing from showrooms until well into the fall, while large-scale deliveries have been pushed back to 2027.

BMW has opened preorders in China for the new iX3 as a long-wheelbase model, offering three variants at prices that are expected to remain unchanged at market launch. Technically, the model is based on the Neue Klasse platform, with an 800-volt architecture, a 108 kWh battery and highly ambitious charging and range figures under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

The BMW i3 Touring has appeared in a video for the first time, clearly revealing a longer rear end and a more gently sloping, wagon-style roofline. Technically, it is likely to be closely related to the i3 Sedan, including the Neue Klasse cockpit and 800-volt charging technology, but with a greater focus on everyday practicality. The extra space will probably come with slightly less range than the sedan.

BMW reports that it has delivered two million all-electric vehicles since the i3 launched in 2013. The milestone vehicle, an i5 M60 xDrive, rolled off the production line in Dingolfing, while the Neue Klasse is providing noticeable momentum in Europe. In the first half of 2026, around one in four BMW vehicles sold in Europe was already fully electric.
