Nio Firefly Club Spiaggia: Special Edition Limited to 666 Units

Nio is launching a new special edition for its Firefly brand in China called Club Spiaggia, limited to 666 vehicles. The familiar technical setup with a 42 kWh battery and 420 km of CLTC range remains unchanged; the roughly 13% premium mainly covers the paintwork, decorative elements, and interior details.

Nio Firefly Launches “Club Spiaggia” as a Strictly Limited Special Edition

Nio is adding another design variant to its Firefly brand: The new Club Spiaggia special edition is launching in China and is limited to 666 units. It is priced at 135,800 yuan, making it around 13% more expensive than the base version (“Free Edition”).

Important context from the perspective of the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland): Firefly is currently primarily focused on China and is building awareness through small production runs while the brand offers only one model. This does not automatically indicate a European launch date, but it does show how Nio is positioning the sub-brand.

What Is New, and What Stays the Same?

The premium does not buy more power or a larger battery, but rather visual and tactile differentiation. According to the manufacturer, Club Spiaggia takes inspiration from the look of the southern Italian coast, so the changes are consistently design-focused.

Feature Firefly Club Spiaggia Context
Production limit 666 vehicles Creates artificial scarcity and keeps the model in the public eye
Price 135,800 yuan Around 13% more than the Free Edition
Battery 42 kWh Same as the regular variants
Range (CLTC) 420 km No range upgrade announced
Exterior Blue paintwork, stripe graphics, white multi-spoke wheels The special edition’s most visible distinguishing feature
Interior Light-colored seats, full-length floor mats, exclusive infotainment wallpaper More of a “theme car” than a technology package

BaaS Lowers the Purchase Price but Adds Ongoing Costs

As is customary for Nio, a “Battery as a Service” model (BaaS) is also available here, meaning the battery is rented instead of being included in the purchase price. This lowers the purchase price to 95,800 yuan, plus a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan.

Depending on how the vehicle is used, this could be attractive to customers: a lower upfront cost → but predictable ongoing expenses. The concept has not yet become established as a broad-market model in the DACH region, but Nio is sticking to its strategy of lowering barriers to entry through flexible battery ownership options.

Why Firefly Is Launching So Many Small-Batch Editions

Club Spiaggia is already the sixth special edition since launch. The logic behind it is simple: If you have only one production model, you regularly need fresh reasons to remain visible in feeds and showrooms.

There is also a learning opportunity for Nio: Each small-batch edition can be used to test how much extra customers are willing to pay for specific designs and themes. According to the manufacturer, an earlier limited edition sold out quickly in China, further encouraging this approach.

More Infrastructure Leverage for Firefly: Access to Nio’s Swap Stations

The infrastructure side is also interesting: In China, Firefly has now gained access to the fifth generation of Nio’s battery-swapping network. This addresses an earlier limitation under which the compact vehicle format was incompatible with the stations.

For everyday use, this could mean less charging downtime and greater predictability, provided drivers are traveling in an area with suitable coverage. Battery swapping remains a niche approach in Europe, but as a differentiating feature it could offer a genuine alternative, particularly in densely populated cities or for high-mileage drivers.

Assessment: China Moves Quickly on Variants, While Europe Focuses on Relevance

In the Chinese market, special editions and rapid themed updates have long been a standard tool, much like in the smartphone industry. For the DACH region, what ultimately matters is whether the technology, price, and availability are right, but this “drop” strategy shows that Nio wants to keep the Firefly brand visible without immediately following up with an entirely new model.

If you are generally interested in how strongly new platforms affect everyday charging, our comparison of 800V vs. 400V in electric cars is also worth reading. And for a look at the longest ranges: The 2026 range ranking shows where the benchmark currently stands.

Meanwhile, Firefly itself remains clearly positioned in the compact segment, while Nio is simultaneously scaling additional sub-brands, including Onvo. This ties in with our overview of market developments, including the 2026 EV sales comparison.

Tesla Model Y L Range Official: EPA Rating Beats Tesla’s Estimate

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published the official range ratings for the Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD, and they exceed Tesla’s original figures in the configurator. Particularly striking is the small loss of range when switching from 19- to 20-inch wheels. This makes the stretched, three-row Model Y look more efficient than many had expected.
