MG 07: Deliveries Begin, 31,000 Orders in 11 Days

MG has begun deliveries of the new MG 07 sedan in China and reports more than 31,000 binding orders within 11 days of its market launch. The model is available as a BEV and plug-in hybrid, with a focus on 800-volt technology, LiDAR and very high CLTC ranges. For Europe, it offers an indication of how quickly MG is currently scaling its hardware and driver-assistance systems.

MG 07 Deliveries Begin in China as Binding Orders Surpass 31,000

MG has begun deliveries of the new MG 07 sedan in China. According to the brand, it has received more than 31,000 locked-in orders, meaning binding, confirmed purchases. The figure covers the period from August 21 to 31, the first 11 days after launch.

This is particularly noteworthy because these are not merely expressions of interest in the form of reservations, but orders considered firm. For MG, it is a strong signal that the brand can continue moving upmarket in China beyond the traditional small-car and compact segments.

Pricing: Aggressive, but Not in the Budget Segment

At launch, a limited-time entry price of 105,900 yuan is available in China, while the official base price is 108,900 yuan. That is roughly €14,000 as a guide, although experience shows that Chinese prices cannot be transferred directly to Germany, Austria or Switzerland.

In the DACH market—Germany, Austria and Switzerland—a possible import or later European derivative would likely be significantly more expensive, due to homologation, equipment packages, warranties and the sales structure. Nevertheless, the figure shows how much pressure MG is exerting through value for money in China.

What Technology Does the MG 07 Offer?

MG offers the MG 07 in China in seven variants, including all-electric versions and plug-in hybrids. The flagship BEV version is particularly notable: it is based on an 800-volt platform and uses a 91-kWh battery. MG claims a CLTC range of 845 km and 5C fast charging.

For context, CLTC is the Chinese testing cycle and generally produces noticeably higher range figures than the European WLTP cycle. Real-world range would therefore be expected to be lower, although a large battery combined with an efficient platform still makes for a strong setup.

BEV and Plug-in Hybrid Overview

Variant Stated Range (China, CLTC) Battery and Platform Notes
BEV (flagship version) 845 km 91 kWh, 800 volts 5C fast charging, deliveries planned from October
BEV (other version) 650 km not specified Deliveries were scheduled to begin in late August
Plug-in hybrid 245 km electric, 1,745 km combined not specified Very high combined range depends heavily on driving patterns

Driver Assistance: LiDAR and a “China Stack” Make a Clear Statement

MG is positioning the MG 07 as the brand’s first model with LiDAR, while its driver-assistance system comes from a Chinese supplier. It also uses a chip promoted for “world model” approaches in driver-assistance systems. The strategic objective is clear: MG wants software and sensors to become stronger selling points, rather than relying solely on battery capacity and price.

This is an interesting development for Europe because it shows how quickly manufacturers in China are industrializing driver-assistance hardware. At the same time, the functions ultimately enabled in the EU will depend heavily on regulation, validation and local implementation. Tesla offers a similar example: the hardware is often already installed, but specific functionality is rolled out and regulated differently from one region to another.

Infotainment: 15.6-Inch Display and Modern Cockpit System-on-Chip

Inside, the MG 07 features a large central display measuring 15.6 inches, with 2.5K resolution and a current-generation infotainment platform. This has become a standard that customers in China expect and is increasingly making its way to Europe. In everyday use, stable software, effective routing with charging plans and responsive controls matter more than screen size.

If you are interested in 800-volt technology in general, our comparison of 800V vs. 400V shows when higher voltage delivers genuine benefits and when it is more about marketing.

MG Expands Sales Operations With More Dealers and Additional Pop-Up Stores

To meet demand, MG says it expanded its effective sales network in China from fewer than 200 to nearly 500 locations over the past year, while also adding around 100 pop-up stores. This is a classic move in China: rapidly increasing sales coverage to maintain the initial momentum of a new model.

At the same time, MG reported more than 17,000 sales of the MG4 model line in August. This is important for the brand because the MG4 remains its core volume model in the market.

What It Means for the DACH Region: Is the MG 07 Coming Here?

For now, this is about the Chinese launch, not a confirmed European release date. Nevertheless, the MG 07 fits a broader trend: sedans with long ranges, 800-volt architectures and increasing amounts of driver-assistance hardware are being priced to put pressure on established brands. Other new models in China with a focus on 800 volts and fast charging are similarly interesting, including the electric MG 07 with its 800-volt approach and technology offensives from other manufacturers.

For many people in Germany, the obvious question is how such a setup compares with the efficiency and charging packages Tesla has been refining for years. If you are looking for figures and real-world context, see our article on the Tesla Model Y, which remains one of Europe’s key benchmarks for energy consumption, charging-network integration and total cost of ownership.

Above all, the MG 07 demonstrates one thing: in China, new EVs are not only unveiled quickly but also brought to market in large volumes, complete with 800-volt technology and LiDAR.

Tesla Model Y L Range Official: EPA Rating Beats Tesla’s Estimate

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published the official range ratings for the Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD, and they exceed Tesla’s original figures in the configurator. Particularly striking is the small loss of range when switching from 19- to 20-inch wheels. This makes the stretched, three-row Model Y look more efficient than many had expected.
