Formula S Expands BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao Portfolio
BYD sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao will launch its first conventional passenger-car range on September 16, 2026. The Formula S family will initially include a sedan and the Formula S GT shooting brake, with final prices to be announced at the presentation in Shanghai.
Preorders are already open in China. The preliminary price range is 230,000 to 280,000 yuan, roughly €29,000 to €35,000 depending on the exchange rate. However, this is only a currency conversion, as it does not include taxes, equipment, or potential import costs.
The range represents an important step for Fang Cheng Bao. Following the off-road-focused Bao models and the Tai range, which is geared more toward urban use, the brand is now entering the large-sedan and sporty-wagon segment.
Up to 490 kW and 900 km Under CLTC
The Formula S sedan measures 5.06 m long, 1.97 m wide, and 1.48 m tall. Its wheelbase is 2.96 m, placing the model firmly in the executive or luxury-car class. The Formula S GT has similar dimensions and uses the same wheelbase.

The range figures are based on China’s CLTC test cycle. It is generally more optimistic than Europe’s WLTP, so these figures do not yet provide a reliable indication of real-world range in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.
Both body styles will receive BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and are expected to support Flash Charging. Specific charging power and charging times for the Formula S models have yet to be announced. The previously announced BYD Seal 06 with Flash Charging already demonstrates the group’s ambitions in this area.
DiSus-M Responds Within Milliseconds
The new DiSus-M suspension is particularly interesting from a technical perspective. It uses a magnetorheological fluid whose flow characteristics can be altered within milliseconds by a magnetic field. This allows the system to adjust the damping very quickly to the road surface, driving style, and driving situation.
With this type of suspension, comfort on poor roads and firm body control through corners no longer need to be such conflicting priorities.
Until now, this technology has mainly been associated with significantly more expensive sports cars and luxury models. BYD is now bringing it to a range whose entry-level price in China is comparable to that of well-equipped midsize vehicles. This democratization of expensive technology has become an important part of the group’s strategy.
Formula S GT Embraces the Sporty Wagon
Alongside the sedan, the BYD Formula S GT electric shooting brake is likely to attract particular attention. The concept combines a low, sporty silhouette with a more practical rear and enters a segment currently occupied by only a few electric cars.
The Formula SL coupe is also expected to follow later. However, Fang Cheng Bao has not yet opened preorders or announced a specific launch date for this model.
European Launch Remains Uncertain
It has not yet been confirmed whether the Formula S family will come to Europe. Its dimensions, high power output, and distinctive suspension concept would generally suit the European market. However, BYD would need to tailor the models’ range, software, driver-assistance systems, and charging planning specifically to local requirements.
In China, the range will target Fang Cheng Bao’s rapidly growing customer base. In August 2026, the brand delivered 41,568 vehicles, around 156% more than in the same month of the previous year. The Formula S models are now intended to carry this momentum from the SUV segment into the sedan class.
