Li 6 to pave Li Auto’s way into Europe

Li Auto is preparing for its official market entry in Europe. Its first key model will be the battery-electric Li i6, which will be sold outside China under the name Li 6.

The European version will make its motor show debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026. Li Auto plans not only to present its global model range there but also to outline its business strategy for Europe.

The Li 6 is intended to open the door to Europe for Li Auto as an electric family SUV.

Golf tournament serves as European launch platform

Li Auto is organizing its first major brand presence through a partnership with the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands. The company will provide 20 Li i6 vehicles for the international golf tournament to transport players and VIP guests.

The manufacturer will also display a Li Mega in the publicly accessible fan area. Although the large electric van will not initially play the leading role in the announced European launch, it is intended to demonstrate the breadth of the brand’s lineup.

The partnership should primarily be viewed as the start of Li Auto’s marketing campaign. An actual market launch will also require type-approved vehicles, a sales network, service partners, and a reliable supply of spare parts.

Sales scheduled to begin by the end of 2026

According to current plans, the Li 6 is due to go on sale in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2026. It remains unclear which countries will be served first, as well as how the vehicle will be priced and how sales will be organized.

It is therefore also unclear whether Germany, Austria, or Switzerland will be included in the first wave. For customers in the German-speaking DACH region—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—warranty terms, service coverage, charging route planning, and local software adaptation are likely to be particularly important.

The timing is challenging. Europe’s electric car market is growing, as shown by the rising EV market share in Europe, but the electric family SUV segment is already highly competitive. Our comparison of electric compact SUVs in Germany provides an overview of the competitive landscape.

Li Auto is pursuing different strategies by region

The manufacturer intends to tailor its model range to individual markets. In Europe, the focus will be on fully electric vehicles, while Li Auto will rely more heavily on range-extender models in the Middle East and Central Asia.

Li Auto has already established its first operations outside Europe. The large Li L9 is sold in the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, among other markets. An agreement for local assembly is also in place in Kazakhstan.

For additional international markets, the company is planning a flexible mix of its own subsidiaries, dealers, and exclusive importers. The approach used in Europe is likely to depend on market size, competition, and regulatory requirements.

Growth provides momentum for expansion

The European push comes during a period of rising monthly deliveries. In August 2026, Li Auto delivered 37,679 vehicles, around 32.1% more than in the same month a year earlier. This ended a run of three months in which deliveries had declined year over year.

From January through August, total deliveries reached 261,619 vehicles. However, this still represented a slight decrease of 0.6% compared with the same period of the previous year.

The key question now is whether Li Auto can translate the position it has built in China into a compelling overall package for Europe. The Li 6 alone will not be enough: the vehicle, price, software, charging experience, and customer service must all work together.

Slate Electric Pickup: First Deliveries as Early as December?

Signs are mounting that US startup Slate could begin its first customer deliveries as early as December 2026. Selected customers who had pre-ordered were apparently asked whether they wanted an earlier delivery window. That would be remarkable for the market, as new manufacturers in particular are usually more likely to push back launch dates.
