China’s EV market remains busy. Nio plans to keep Firefly centered on one small electric hatchback, refreshing it over time with technology updates and special editions. Meanwhile, Xiaomi Auto has passed 800,000 deliveries and is looking to its Sky Nomad extended-range SUVs for further growth, while the MG 07 has collected more than 42,000 confirmed orders in just 20 days, with its 800-volt long-range version proving especially popular.

Several established brands are updating their electric lineups. The Mercedes VLE 400 4MATIC is now available to order in Germany from €78,452, offering 310 kW, up to 654 km of WLTP range and 300 kW charging. The facelifted Volvo EX40 starts at €47,490 with more efficient motors and up to 576 km of range, while the electric Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gains two battery options promising as much as 650 km.

Looking further ahead, Avatr has revealed its Huawei-backed 9 Series flagship SUV, a six-seater due in China by the end of 2026 with advanced roof-mounted LiDAR. Li Auto will bring the electric Li 6 to Europe in the fourth quarter of 2026, with launch details expected around the Paris Motor Show. Peugeot, meanwhile, is considering a coupé-like 308 fastback for 2029 as a more aerodynamic alternative to the SUV trend.

Vehicle platforms and software are also evolving. Volkswagen’s SSP platform is being developed with 800-volt technology, zonal software and optional range-extender support as the company targets shorter development times and lower costs. Xpeng is taking a different software step by deeply integrating Google Maps into the L03, with the data eventually expected to support its VLA 2.0 driver-assistance system.

On charging, Geely is targeting peak output above 1,800 kW and an 80% charge in roughly five minutes, using station-side battery storage to ease pressure on the grid. Electric pickups are heading in two directions. Ford will replace the current F-150 Lightning strategy with two pickups from 2027: the affordable all-electric Fathom and a larger extended-range model with a gasoline generator. US startup Slate may move even faster, with signs pointing to first electric pickup deliveries as early as December 2026.

Finally, commercial buyers will soon be able to order the Opel Combo Start Electric for €28,500 before VAT. The compact electric van offers up to 270 km of WLTP range, a 42 kWh battery and as much as 4.4 cubic metres of cargo space.
