Immersive Audio X Reaches More Tesla Models
Tesla is expanding its audio system in China via an over-the-air update. With software version 2026.14.11 or later, selected variants of the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y will receive the Immersive Audio X feature.
Until now, the technology had been exclusive to the extended-length Model Y L. Several dual-motor versions will now also benefit from the more sophisticated audio processing, provided they were built after the specified cutoff date.
How Tesla Creates Virtual 3D Sound
Immersive Audio X is not a standalone surround-sound format like Dolby Atmos. The system processes standard stereo recordings and redistributes individual sound elements across the vehicle’s existing speakers.
Voices and central instruments remain toward the front of the soundstage, while reverberation, background instruments, and spatial information are reproduced more prominently through the side and rear speakers. Stereo source in → wider virtual soundstage inside the vehicle.
Immersive Audio X enhances existing stereo material through software, but it does not replace a recording produced natively in a multichannel format.
Tesla has not disclosed in detail how the system separates the individual signals. The algorithm likely analyzes direct and diffuse sound components to calculate a more spatial listening experience.
Intensity Can Be Adjusted in the Vehicle
A slider on the central display allows the driver to determine how expansive the virtual soundstage should feel. In automatic mode, the system adjusts the intensity based on the content, such as speech, acoustic music, or electronic tracks.
In everyday use, this matters more than achieving the most spectacular effect possible. Excessive spatial processing can make voices sound unnatural, while a moderate setting is likely to add more depth, particularly to flat stereo recordings.

The more affordable versions with less extensive audio equipment are not included in the initial rollout in China. These include base models and several rear-wheel-drive variants.
Tesla has not yet provided a detailed technical explanation. One likely reason is that Immersive Audio X requires a specific number and arrangement of speakers for the virtual channel separation to work properly.
Is Immersive Audio X Coming to Europe?
There is no confirmed launch date yet for Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. Since European dual-motor versions of the Model 3 and Model Y have comparable audio systems, enabling the feature at a later date appears technically feasible.
However, there is no guarantee. Tesla often rolls out features gradually based on region, vehicle hardware, and software branch. The production date could also be a deciding factor in a European rollout.
Nevertheless, the update highlights one of Tesla’s familiar strengths: vehicles already delivered can receive new features without a workshop visit. How relevant the feature ultimately proves to be will depend on the music source, speaker configuration, and personal taste, but as a software-only improvement, it is a welcome addition.
