Tesla App 4.60.0: What the New Clues Mean
Tesla is currently developing its app in two directions that could have a real impact on everyday use: greater account security through passkeys and deeper energy integration through Powershare between Cybertruck and Powerwall. The clues come from new strings and workflows discovered in app version 4.60.0.
An important caveat: Something appearing in the app’s code does not guarantee that it will be rolled out. However, such clues are often a good indicator of what Tesla is actively working on and what the eventual user experience might look like.
Passkeys in the Tesla App: Password-Free Login
The most exciting new feature for virtually all Tesla drivers is passkey support. Instead of using a password plus two-factor authentication (2FA), users may eventually be able to sign in via their smartphone’s security hardware, using biometric methods such as Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint recognition.
The app points to support for the full lifecycle: creating, managing, and revoking passkeys. It also apparently checks whether the device supports passkeys and whether a passkey has already been registered for the Tesla account.
Passkeys can improve account security while making everyday login significantly more convenient, because the “secret” is no longer a password that users have to remember.
Older smartphones without the necessary security features are expected to retain the familiar method of using a password and 2FA. This is particularly relevant in the DACH region—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—where Tesla accounts often encompass multiple vehicles, home chargers or solar systems, and sometimes business use as well. A compromised account is therefore more than just an annoying login issue.
Cybertruck Powershare and Powerwall: Integration Moves Closer
The clues surrounding Cybertruck Powershare in combination with Tesla Powerwall appear even more specific. The idea is for the Cybertruck to act as an additional energy storage system for the home, coordinating with the Powerwall and Gateway, particularly during a grid outage.
The code describes a process in which the Cybertruck initially remains on standby and is activated only when the Gateway detects a power outage. The vehicle and Powerwall could then work together to supply the home. This is exactly the real-world scenario many users want: grid goes down → system takes over automatically, without having to search through menus first.
Safeguards: App Warns When It Is a Bad Time to Shut Down
Tesla also appears to be adding safety logic. If someone wants to stop Powershare but the Powerwall does not have enough stored energy to support the home’s current load, the app can apparently warn that the house may be left without power. Such “guardrails” are important because even the best backup-power solution is of little use if it can be disabled too easily at the wrong moment.
Why This Is Also Relevant in Europe
The Cybertruck is still not a regular production model in Europe, but these signals are relevant nonetheless. First, they show how seriously Tesla is now integrating bidirectional energy features into its app and Powerwall logic. Second, they clearly point toward future Tesla vehicles and markets where vehicle-to-load and, eventually, vehicle-to-home capabilities will be in greater demand.
The context is also interesting in light of Tesla’s recent V2L development: The Tesla Model Y with a V2L adapter is designed to power external devices, while Powershare plus Powerwall comes much closer to a true home backup strategy.
Assessment: What to Expect Now—and What Not to
The main conclusion from these app clues is that Tesla is working in parallel on account modernization through passkeys and energy orchestration through Powershare with Powerwall. Whether or when these features will be rolled out remains unclear, as Tesla can enable them by region or in stages at any time.
