One Electric Station Wagon for Two Target Groups
Skoda is considering reorganizing its traditional model lines. At the center of these plans is the Vision O, which could evolve into a fully electric station wagon positioned between the Octavia and Superb around 2030. Instead of taking both model lines separately into the electric era, a spacious production model could serve both target groups in the future.
This consolidation has not yet been decided. Nor does it imply that the Octavia and Superb will be discontinued in the near future. Rather, Skoda is examining whether a modern electric platform can provide enough interior space to combine the roles of both models in a single model line.
For now, the Vision O is primarily an indication of Skoda’s strategic direction, not a confirmed successor with a final name and fixed technical specifications.
Why the Superb Is Under Particular Pressure
The Octavia is one of Skoda’s most important high-volume models and is firmly established among families and fleet customers in the DACH region—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The larger Superb, by contrast, serves a narrower segment in which traditional sedans and station wagons increasingly have to compete with SUVs. With demand declining, it therefore makes sense to take a closer look at the overlap between the two model lines.
An electric Octavia with particularly efficient use of space could offer an interior comparable to today’s Superb without fully matching its exterior dimensions. In an electric car in particular, the flat battery pack and more compact drivetrain components provide greater flexibility for the wheelbase, passenger compartment, and cargo area.

Vision O Is Expected to Use the SSP Platform
Volkswagen Group’s SSP platform is planned as the technical basis. Among other features, it is expected to support an 800-volt electrical system. With a suitable battery and charging curve, this could enable high charging rates and shorter charging stops.
That would be an important advantage for a station wagon designed for long-distance travel. The Octavia and Superb are frequently used as company cars or family vehicles, so efficiency, cargo space, and highway range matter more than spectacular acceleration figures.
However, the SSP timeline remains a source of uncertainty. The platform was originally scheduled to arrive much earlier and has been delayed several times. It therefore remains unclear whether the production model will actually launch with this technology around 2030 or switch to an adapted architecture.
Skoda’s Electric Lineup Needs More Than SUVs
So far, Skoda has clearly focused its all-electric lineup on SUV body styles. Models such as the Skoda Enyaq and the more compact Skoda Elroq cover important market segments, but they do not replace a low-slung, efficient station wagon.
That is precisely where the Vision O’s opportunity lies. A lower body can offer aerodynamic advantages on the highway, potentially providing more range from the same battery. At the same time, it would retain the practicality valued by many Octavia Combi and Superb Combi drivers.
Octavia Would Be the Logical Name
The O in Vision O deliberately evokes the Octavia. However, there has been no official confirmation of the eventual production name. Skoda could retain an established name or position the vehicle as a separate electric model line.
From a brand perspective, there is a strong case for Octavia, as the name enjoys enormous recognition in Europe. So far, only the general direction is certain: Skoda is working on an electric station wagon intended to combine generous space, high efficiency, and modern charging technology. Whether this will ultimately spell the end of the Superb will only be determined once the final product plans are in place.
