Five stars for the electric Nissan Micra
The new Nissan Micra is entering the electric era with a strong result. The small car earns five stars and 94% overall from Green NCAP.
The rating is based on the results of the closely related Renault 5. Both models use the AmpR Small platform and share key parts of their powertrain technology. The result can therefore reasonably be applied to the Micra, although this was not a fully independent Micra test.
With a score of 94%, the Nissan Micra ranks among the electric cars with particularly strong environmental ratings in the European Green NCAP program.
The Green NCAP rating in detail
The Micra achieves high scores in all three assessed categories. It even receives the maximum score for greenhouse gas emissions.
| Assessment category | Result |
|---|---|
| Overall score | 94% |
| Clean air | 9.1 out of 10 points |
| Energy efficiency | 9.3 out of 10 points |
| Greenhouse gas emissions | 10.0 out of 10 points |
| Overall rating | 5 stars |
Its performance is also rated as good at low temperatures. This is particularly relevant in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as cold weather increases the energy required for the battery and cabin. Stable efficiency in winter can therefore be more important in everyday use than exceptionally low consumption under ideal conditions.
Two batteries and up to 416 km of range
Nissan offers the Micra with two battery sizes. The smaller version has a capacity of 40 kWh and delivers up to 317 km of WLTP range. With the 52 kWh battery, the official range increases to as much as 416 km.
| Battery | WLTP range | DC charging power |
|---|---|---|
| 40 kWh | up to 317 km | up to 80 kW |
| 52 kWh | up to 416 km | up to 100 kW |
The smaller battery should already be sufficient for predominantly urban driving. Those who regularly travel longer distances get more reserves and higher DC charging power with the 52 kWh version. However, the assessment does not provide charging times, so the peak figures alone do not offer a complete picture of the car’s long-distance capabilities.
Regenerative braking for more efficient urban driving
Regenerative braking and the e-Pedal function are designed to recover energy during deceleration. In dense urban traffic, the Micra can often be accelerated and slowed using the accelerator pedal alone. Less mechanical braking → more energy flows back into the battery.
Developed for Europe and built in France
The sixth-generation Micra was developed specifically for the European market. The electric small car is less than 4 m long and under 1.80 m wide. This makes it well suited to narrow city streets and compact parking spaces.
The exterior was designed by Nissan Design Europe in London. The Micra is produced alongside its French technical sibling at the Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai. The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance thus uses a shared platform, while Nissan gives the model a distinctive appearance.
Inside, the technology package includes NissanConnect, integrated Google services, and navigation with charging planning. On longer journeys, the system can incorporate suitable charging stops into the route. Combined with its strong Green NCAP rating, this makes for an efficiency-focused electric small car whose strengths should be particularly evident in everyday European use.
