Jetta M6 undercuts many small electric cars
With the Jetta M6, Volkswagen’s Chinese brand is opening its first fully electric chapter. Pre-orders have been open since September 28, 2026, with the official market launch scheduled for mid-October.
The entry-level price is 80,800 yuan, equivalent to around €10,200 depending on the exchange rate. The most expensive version costs 99,800 yuan, or approximately €12,600. However, this pricing is for the Chinese market and cannot be applied to a potential European launch.
The M6 is intended to bring electric mobility to China’s 100,000-yuan segment without looking like a bare-bones budget model in terms of range and digital equipment.
Three versions and up to 555 km of range
Jetta offers the electric sedan in 465 Pro, 555 Max, and 555 Ultra versions. The numbers in the model names refer to their respective ranges under China’s CLTC test cycle.

Directly converting the CLTC figures into WLTP ranges would be misleading. The Chinese test cycle is generally more optimistic, so lower figures would be expected under the European testing standard and especially in real-world highway driving. No information is available yet on usable battery capacity or maximum charging power.
Dedicated EV platform rather than a converted combustion-engine model
The M6 is based on the Jetta-developed Jiesi architecture and a platform designed specifically for electric cars. Its single motor is mounted on the front axle, giving the M6 a cost-effective and straightforward setup for everyday use.
At just under 4.81 m long, the M6 is considerably larger than its low price might suggest. Its dimensions place it in the midsize segment, where it faces particularly fierce competition. Volkswagen is also expanding its electric vehicle range in China, including models such as the VW ID. UNYX 09.
Large display and camera-based driver assistance
Inside, Jetta combines a digital instrument cluster with a central 15.6-inch touchscreen. Six exterior paint colors and three interior color schemes are available.
For driver assistance, the M6 uses Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6M chip. The system relies exclusively on cameras and is intended to enable navigation-assisted driving features on highways and in urban traffic. It is a driver-assistance system, not fully autonomous driving.
Benefits worth a total of around 11,000 yuan have been announced for pre-order customers. These include a reduced down payment, a color wrap limited to 600 vehicles, and a choice of either a wallbox or a combined connection for charging and supplying electricity.
Jetta aims to become a mass-market electric brand
Jetta is jointly operated in China by FAW and Volkswagen and is positioned there as a standalone entry-level brand. In early 2026, a new company in Chengdu gave the brand greater operational independence.
Five new models are planned by 2028, including four so-called New Energy Vehicles. In China, this term covers not only battery-electric cars but also plug-in hybrids and range-extended vehicles. In the medium term, Jetta is targeting annual production and sales of 400,000 to 500,000 vehicles.
The M6 demonstrates how fiercely Chinese manufacturers and joint ventures are now competing in the affordable electric vehicle segment. This price pressure is also shaping electric car sales in China. The Jetta M6 has not yet been announced for Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.
