Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4Matic+ launches as the range-topping electric model
Mercedes-AMG is adding the CLA 45 4Matic+ to its configurator as the fully electric flagship of the model range. Technically, the model combines an 800-volt architecture with three axial-flux motors that can be decoupled from one another and controlled independently. The CLA is 4,742 mm long and designed strictly as a four-seater.
The result is a total system output of 500 kW and maximum torque of 1,759 Nm. AMG is clearly targeting the “electric sedan with track ambitions” category, complete with finely tuned all-wheel drive and torque vectoring.
Power, speed and range: the key specifications
The electric CLA 45 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds. Its standard top speed is 250 km/h, with 270 km/h available as an option. For everyday use in Germany, Austria and Switzerland—the DACH region—the combination of range and charging performance is particularly compelling.
Mercedes-AMG specifies a range of more than 670 km (WLTP) for the sedan with its 94 kWh battery. At a DC fast charger, 10 to 80% should take 22 minutes, provided the charging station can make full use of the 800-volt technology.

Why three motors, and what axial flux delivers in everyday driving
The electric motors are housed in a “High Performance Electric Drive Unit” at each axle. The front motor delivers up to 225 kW and performs two roles depending on the situation: acting as a booster motor for peak power and as an efficiency aid. It can be decoupled under low loads and re-engaged during acceleration or regenerative braking. Fewer drag losses → better efficiency over long distances.
AMG Performance 4Matic+ distributes power fully variably between the front and rear axles. Torque can also be controlled individually between the two rear wheels. This is not just “for the track”; it also helps in wet conditions, with cold tires or on surfaces with changing grip levels—in other words, precisely the everyday situations in which a powerful EV can quickly feel unsettled.
Chassis, aerodynamics and record lap: a focus on stability
AMG equips the model with a steel-sprung AMG Ride Control chassis featuring adaptive three-way adjustable damping. It also receives revised wheel-location components and newly tuned spring and damper elements. The goal is greater lateral acceleration while maintaining a more controllable balance at the limit.
Mercedes-AMG has also set a benchmark for the segment: the CLA 45 4Matic+ is said to have completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:32.070 min. While lap times like this are not an everyday consideration, they demonstrate that the thermal management, chassis tuning and drivetrain design were not optimized solely for straight-line performance.
Aerodynamically, the sedan uses an active rear spoiler, while the Shooting Brake has a roof-edge spoiler. Depending on the drive mode, the spoilers change position either to reduce drag or to improve stability through greater downforce. There are also active radiator shutters at the front, which can remain closed at high speeds and open when required.

Standard equipment includes contoured sport seats, an AMG Performance steering wheel and a rear center armrest. Optional AMG Performance seats with integrated head restraints are available with seat heating, memory and multicontour functions.
