Changan Nevo Q06: 800-Volt Tech at a Bargain Price

The Changan Nevo Q06 is launching in China as an electric SUV with 800-volt technology, up to 700 km of CLTC range, and LiDAR. Its standout features are 6C charging in nine minutes and a promotional price equivalent to around €17,000.

Changan Nevo Q06 launches with five electric versions

Changan is expanding its Nevo line-up with the Q06, a 4.84-meter midsize SUV for the Chinese market. The range comprises five fully electric variants and one version with a range extender. This places an unusually clear emphasis on battery-electric power.

Limited-time promotional prices range from 135,900 to 165,900 yuan, roughly equivalent to around €17,000 to €20,900. Changan lists regular prices of 139,900 to 169,900 yuan. However, these figures cannot be applied directly to Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, as taxes, transportation, homologation, and distribution costs would need to be added.

With an 800-volt system, 6C charging, and LiDAR as standard, the Nevo Q06 brings premium-class technology to a fiercely competitive price segment.

800 volts and 30% to 80% in nine minutes

The fully electric variants are based on an 800-volt platform with silicon carbide power electronics. According to Changan, the batteries can charge from 30% to 80% in nine minutes thanks to a maximum 6C charging rate. Put simply, 6C means that the theoretical charging power can temporarily reach six times the battery capacity.

Such peak figures require a high-performance charging station, a battery at the appropriate temperature, and a favorable state of charge. In everyday use, therefore, the maximum figure alone is not what matters; a consistently strong charging curve is equally important. Our comparison of 800-volt and 400-volt EV architectures explains the fundamental advantages of the technology.

The ranges were determined using China’s CLTC test cycle, which generally produces more optimistic figures than WLTP, the standard used in Europe. The stated 700 km should therefore not be regarded as a directly comparable European figure. Meaningful WLTP data is not yet available.

Range extender as an alternative for long journeys

The EREV version combines a 28.39 kWh LFP battery with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The engine serves as a range extender, increasing the combined CLTC range to as much as 1,600 km, while up to 200 km of fully electric driving is said to be possible.

The concept is aimed primarily at buyers who want to drive electrically in everyday use without being entirely dependent on charging infrastructure during long journeys. The choice of lithium iron phosphate suits the Chinese market, where LFP batteries now account for a particularly high share.

LiDAR and driver assistance are standard

All variants receive Changan’s in-house SDA Pilot Pro assistance system. Standard equipment includes a Horizon Robotics J6M chip with 128 TOPS of computing power and a LiDAR sensor. This already sets the base Q06 clearly apart from many similarly priced vehicles.

SDA Pilot Ultra can be ordered for 9,900 yuan, equivalent to around €1,250. The package increases computing power to 560 TOPS and adds a 256-channel LiDAR sensor as well as navigation-assisted driving for urban traffic. Despite the powerful hardware, this remains a driver-assistance system rather than a fully autonomous vehicle.

Spacious interior with two 15.6-inch displays

At 4,837 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, the Q06 is a substantial vehicle. Its 2,940 mm wheelbase promises plenty of space in both rows of seats. According to the manufacturer, the luggage compartment holds 782 liters, while the electric versions also feature a 196-liter frunk.

The cockpit features a 15.6-inch touchscreen with 2.5K resolution. A second 15.6-inch screen is mounted on the roof for the second row. Zero-gravity front seats and a 9.5-liter refrigerator with two separate compartments underline the comfort-focused approach.

A strong challenger, for China only for now

In China, the Nevo Q06 will compete with models including the BYD Song Ultra EV, BYD Sealion 06, Leapmotor C10, and Xpeng G6. The combination of aggressive pricing, fast-charging technology, and an extensive sensor suite is likely to intensify competition in this segment.

A European launch has not yet been confirmed. Nevertheless, the Q06 would be an interesting proposition from a technical perspective, as its size, range, and charging performance are well suited to Europe’s family SUV segment. Alongside a realistic WLTP figure, the key factors would be route and charging planning, software quality, service availability, and European homologation.
