Da Han Takes Production to 10 Million
BYD has produced the 10 millionth vehicle in its Dynasty range in China. The milestone model rolling off the production line was the new BYD Da Han, an electric luxury sedan and the new flagship of the model family.
This is an important milestone for the brand. It took around 13 years from the market launch of the first Dynasty model to reach an eight-digit production figure. At the same time, the choice of the Da Han shows how far BYD has evolved from a provider of affordable plug-in hybrids into a manufacturer of technologically sophisticated electric cars.
The 10 millionth Dynasty is more than just a round number: it is a showcase for BYD’s latest battery, chassis and driver-assistance technology.
From the BYD Qin to an Extensive Model Family
It all began with the BYD Qin in August 2013. The sedan combined the DM plug-in hybrid system with a 13 kWh LFP battery and achieved an electric range of 82 km under the NEDC test cycle used at the time.
Dynasty now comprises six model lines: Tang, Han, Qin, Song, Yuan and Xia. Including different model years and variants, BYD offers 27 vehicles. The range continues to include plug-in hybrids alongside fully electric cars.
According to the manufacturer, cumulative sales of the Dynasty range rose from 8.86 million vehicles in January 2026 to around 10 million by September. When BYD previously reached a total of 15 million New Energy Vehicles sold, around 9 million were from the Dynasty range and 6 million from the Ocean family. In China, the term New Energy Vehicles covers both electric cars and plug-in hybrids.
What the Electric BYD Da Han Offers
At 5.26 meters long, the Da Han is firmly positioned in the luxury segment. Despite its size, rear-wheel steering is said to provide a turning radius of just 4.95 meters. This should be particularly noticeable in tight parking garages and dense urban traffic.
| Specification | Rear-wheel drive | All-wheel drive |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 5.26 m | |
| Width | 2.00 m | |
| Height | 1.51 m | |
| Wheelbase | 3.13 m | |
| Power output | 370 kW | 570 kW |
| Battery capacity | 102.3 kWh | |
| CLTC range | 1,008 km | 880 km |
| Stated WLTP equivalent | 827 km | 722 km |
The WLTP figures should be treated with caution. Until European type approval has been completed, they cannot be considered equivalent to the officially tested ranges of a model sold in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. Nevertheless, the Da Han’s range and charging technology remains remarkable.
Air Suspension and Rear-Wheel Steering
The DiSus-A chassis uses dual-chamber air suspension. Ground clearance can be adjusted by up to 10 cm, which is intended to make it easier to balance a low highway profile with additional clearance on poor roads.
There is also DiPilot 300, which BYD also calls God’s Eye B. The system supports navigation-guided driving on highways and in urban traffic. It remains a driver-assistance system, and the person driving continues to be responsible. Any potential European version would also have to be adapted to local approval regulations.
What the Milestone Means for BYD
Together with the Ocean family, the Dynasty range forms the core of BYD’s volume business. Producing 10 million vehicles within a single model family illustrates the industrial scale the manufacturer has now achieved.
The Da Han’s starting price in China is 249,900 yuan, equivalent to around €30,000. This figure cannot be applied directly to the DACH market—the German-speaking region comprising Germany, Austria and Switzerland—as transport, customs duties, taxes, type approval and local equipment would add to the cost. BYD has not yet officially confirmed a European market launch.
Even so, the Da Han is relevant to Europe. Technologies such as large LFP batteries, powerful electric drivetrains, air suspension and rear-wheel steering are increasingly moving into lower price segments in China. This is also increasing the pressure on established luxury car manufacturers in Europe.
