BYD Yuan Up to offer up to 501 km of range in China
BYD is giving the Yuan Up a significant upgrade for the 2027 model year. In China, the compact electric SUV is gaining two new variants with 501 km of range under the CLTC (China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle). The previous maximum was 401 km.
Outside China, the model is sold in several markets as the BYD Atto 2. However, the new batteries and equipment have not yet been confirmed for Europe.
The update not only adds more range but also reshuffles pricing and driver-assistance systems.
Three battery sizes and five variants
The new Feichi Edition comprises five versions. In addition to the familiar 301 km and 401 km range levels, a 501 km version is available for the first time. All range figures are based on the Chinese CLTC cycle and cannot be compared directly with European WLTP figures.

The entry price remains unchanged at 74,800 yuan, roughly equivalent to €9,500. For eligible buyers, a limited-time trade-in bonus reduces the price by a further 5,000 yuan. However, such conversions are not a price forecast for Germany, Austria or Switzerland, as transport, taxes, equipment and market positioning must also be taken into account.
401 km version becomes significantly cheaper
The price cut is particularly substantial for the mid-range version. The least expensive model with 401 km of range now starts at 81,800 yuan, which is 18,000 yuan below the previous entry price for this range category.
However, BYD ties the lower price to changes in equipment. The cheaper variant does without the God's Eye C driver-assistance package. By contrast, the version costing 89,800 yuan with the same battery size includes adaptive cruise control, navigation-assisted driving on expressways, and automated and remote-controlled parking, among other features.
Even in the 501 km versions, the larger battery and extensive assistance systems are not automatically combined. Buyers therefore need to examine the equipment of each version carefully. These systems remain driver-assistance features and do not make the Yuan Up an autonomous car.
More range, but less power than before
All five new variants use an electric motor producing 70 kW and 180 Nm. By contrast, some versions of the older Smart Driving Edition that remain on sale produce up to 130 kW. The update therefore focuses more strongly on efficiency, range and a low price than on maximum performance.
The dimensions remain unchanged. The Yuan Up is still 4.31 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.68 m tall, with a wheelbase of 2.62 m. New additions include two paint colors in yellow and blue, a two-spoke leather steering wheel, and 17-inch wheels for higher-spec variants.
What the China update means for Europe
For the European Atto 2, the larger battery would be the most interesting addition. An extra 100 km in the CLTC cycle represents a mathematical increase of 25%, even though the eventual gain under WLTP is likely to differ. In everyday use, a larger battery could make the compact BYD considerably better suited to long-distance travel.
Applying Chinese prices directly to Europe would be unrealistic. Nevertheless, the model update shows how aggressively BYD is competing in the affordable electric SUV segment. The manufacturer is also increasing the pressure with smaller models, as demonstrated by the announced BYD Dolphin Surf update.
The Yuan Up belongs to the same model family as the Yuan Plus, which is sold internationally as the BYD Atto 3. The Yuan range achieved record sales of 84,550 vehicles in August 2026. That represents growth of around 128% compared with the same month a year earlier, making it BYD's best-selling model family that month.
