BMW iX3 Reaches Its First US Customers Earlier
The BMW iX3 is reportedly reaching customers in the US sooner than originally planned. Although the official delivery launch is scheduled for September 25, 2026, some dealers are said to have already handed over the first vehicles.
BMW attributes the faster pace to strong demand. Initially, customers can order the 2027 model-year iX3 50 xDrive at a base price of $61,500. This figure is only partly comparable with European list prices because taxes, equipment and additional costs are presented differently in the US.
Up to Around 698 km of Estimated EPA Range
For the US-spec iX3 50 xDrive, BMW quotes an estimated EPA range of around 616 to 698 km. Power output is 345 kW, while acceleration to 100 km/h takes approximately 4.9 seconds.
The North American version has a stated battery capacity of 112.2 kWh. DC fast-charging power of up to 400 kW should make it possible to add enough energy for around 372 km of range within ten minutes. How closely these figures can be replicated in everyday use depends on factors including battery temperature, state of charge and charging-station technology.
A peak charging rate of 400 kW is particularly relevant on long journeys: short charging stop → significantly more usable range.
This makes the iX3 one of the fastest-charging electric SUVs currently available. Our comparison of 800-volt and 400-volt architectures shows the advantages a modern high-voltage platform offers over conventional systems.
Bidirectional Charging Included in North America
The North American version supports several forms of bidirectional charging. V2L can supply external devices with up to 2.4 kW, V2H provides up to 3.6 kW for a compatible home energy system, and V2V enables energy to be transferred to another vehicle at up to 7.7 kW.
Buyers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland should not assume that identical features will be available in those markets. Connectors, regulatory requirements and compatible home energy systems vary by market. However, the technology demonstrates the role EVs could play in the future as mobile energy-storage systems.
European BMW iX3 Versions Compared
In Europe, the Neue Klasse model range, based on BMW’s new-generation EV platform, is offered with rear-wheel drive and as a high-performance all-wheel-drive model. The official WLTP figures are not directly comparable with the US EPA estimates because the two testing procedures use different methods.

Debrecen Plant Now Operates Around the Clock
All iX3 models currently offered are built at BMW’s new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. Because of high demand, BMW expanded production within a few months, first to two shifts and then to three. The plant now operates around the clock.
According to the manufacturer, it has already received 100,000 orders from Europe alone. For a newly opened plant and the first model series of a new vehicle generation, this represents a remarkably rapid production ramp-up.
From 2027, the iX3 is also expected to be manufactured in Mexico, which should provide shorter transport routes, particularly for the North American market. A locally produced long-wheelbase version is also planned for China.
The iX3 Sets the Pace for the Neue Klasse
The iX3 is more than just another electric SUV. It launches BMW’s Neue Klasse and provides the technical foundation for upcoming models, including the planned BMW iX1 based on the Neue Klasse platform.
The earlier US launch is therefore an important signal. Long range, very fast charging and bidirectional features are evidently generating strong interest in North America as well, while BMW must also prove that production can keep pace with demand.
