Xpeng Sets Launch Date for the G9L
Xpeng will officially launch its new G9L flagship SUV on the Chinese market on September 17, 2026. Pre-orders have been open since August 11, with the first deliveries expected to begin in September.
The five-seat G9L joins the six-seat GX and shares key platform technology with it. Xpeng is taking a dual approach to powertrains: customers can choose between a fully electric version and a range-extender variant.
800 Volts for Both the Electric and Range-Extender Versions
A notable feature is the standard 800-volt platform across all powertrain variants. When used with a compatible fast charger, the higher voltage can enable particularly high charging rates while reducing current and heat losses. Our comparison 800 volts versus 400 volts explains the advantages of this technology over conventional 400-volt systems.
| Powertrain | Electric range | Total range | Architecture |
|---|---|---|---|
| BEV | up to 755 km under CLTC | 755 km under CLTC | 800 volts |
| EREV | up to 435 km under CLTC | up to 1,602 km under CLTC | 800 volts |
In the EREV, the combustion engine does not drive the wheels directly. Instead, it generates electricity for the electric powertrain when needed. This allows many everyday journeys to be completed entirely on electric power, while the generator reduces reliance on charging stops during long trips.
However, the range figures were determined using China’s CLTC test cycle. It generally produces more optimistic results than the WLTP standard used in Europe and is therefore not directly comparable with manufacturers’ European figures. Our overview of the Xpeng G9L with a 755 km range provides further technical details.
Chinese Pricing Starts at Around €33,000
The pre-sale price starts at 259,800 yuan, equivalent to roughly €33,000. This is merely a currency conversion and does not indicate a potential price in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. Taxes, transportation, homologation, and local equipment would make a European model considerably more expensive.
In China, the G9L will compete with models including the Li Auto L7 and Aito M7. Six configurations were announced when pre-sales began, allowing Xpeng to target both conventional electric-car buyers and customers who frequently travel long distances.
International Rollout Is Already Underway
At the same time, Xpeng is preparing to expand into additional markets. The first production right-hand-drive vehicles have rolled off the assembly line at the Guangzhou plant and are destined for Australia. In the long term, the G9L is expected to be offered in 64 countries and regions.
It has not yet been confirmed whether or when the SUV will arrive in the DACH region, comprising Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The company’s international plans make a later European launch plausible, but specific dates and prices are not yet available.
G9L Intended to Give Xpeng’s Sales Fresh Momentum
Xpeng delivered 39,107 vehicles in August, around 3.7% more than a year earlier. Deliveries from January through August totaled 243,111 vehicles, representing a decline of approximately 10.5% compared with the same period of the previous year.
With new models such as the G9L and Mona L05, Xpeng aims to exceed 60,000 vehicles per month for the first time in the fourth quarter. That would require an increase of around 53% compared with August. The G9L is therefore not only a new flagship model but also a key element of the company’s planned growth push.
