MG 07 launches in China with 800-volt architecture and up to 845 km CLTC range

MG is launching the new MG 07 in China at promotional prices significantly lower than originally announced. The headline version is the electric model with an 800-volt platform, 91 kWh battery, and up to 845 km of CLTC range, while 400-volt BEVs and a plug-in hybrid are also available.

MG 07: New fastback sedan launches as a BEV and plug-in hybrid

MG has officially unveiled the MG 07 in China and kicked off sales with limited-time promotional prices. The model is a sporty fastback sedan with a liftback tailgate and is available both as a fully electric vehicle (BEV) and a plug-in hybrid.

For the DACH region—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—the launch is particularly interesting as an indicator of technology and pricing, as China often sets the pace for 800-volt architectures, fast charging rates, and software features. However, this does not automatically mean that the MG 07 will come to Europe, or indicate when it might do so.

Prices and variants: Seven versions and launch promotions

The MG 07 is sold in seven variants in China. Official list prices are higher, but lower promotional prices are available at launch. China also offers an incentive for trade-ins or replacement purchases.

Although these prices cannot be transferred directly to Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, the move shows that MG is positioning the car in an extremely competitive segment with a clear focus on value for money.

Dimensions and practicality: Fastback with a liftback and plenty of storage, including a frunk

The MG 07 is 4,886 mm long, 1,900 mm wide, and 1,485 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. That places it in the executive midsize segment, combining generous space with a coupe-like silhouette.

For everyday use, the combination of a liftback tailgate and a large luggage compartment is particularly appealing: MG quotes 697 liters of rear cargo capacity and a 168-liter frunk. It also features an electrically adjustable rear spoiler with multiple positions.

Electric powertrains: 800 volts for the flagship, 400 volts for the smaller versions

From a technical perspective, MG clearly divides the MG 07 into two BEV categories. The flagship uses an 800-volt platform, while the more affordable family remains at 400 volts. This matters because, in practice, 800 volts generally enables higher charging power and more consistent performance at high currents, provided the battery, thermal management system, and charging station can support it.

BEV variants at a glance

Version Architecture Battery capacity Range (CLTC) Battery supplier
MG 07 BEV “845” 800 volts 91 kWh up to 845 km CATL
MG 07 BEV “650” and “610” 400 volts 67 kWh depending on version Qingtao Energy

For the flagship 800-volt model, MG claims 5C fast charging. For context, “C” describes the ratio of charging power to battery capacity. However, the actual power delivered at the charging station depends on the charging window, temperature, and infrastructure. In Europe, such rates would be particularly relevant where modern high-power charging stations are available and vehicles can sustain the power for several minutes. A general comparison of the two systems is available in our overview of 800V vs. 400V architecture in electric cars.

Plug-in hybrid: Long electric range under the Chinese test cycle, with a focus on efficiency

Alongside the BEVs, there is a plug-in hybrid with a 1.5-liter combustion engine and an electric motor. The electric motor is rated at a peak output of 152 kW, while the battery is a CATL LFP (lithium iron phosphate) unit.

MG quotes an electric range of 245 km (CLTC) and a combined range of 1,745 km (CLTC) for the PHEV. Fuel consumption with a depleted battery is stated at 2.91 liters/100 km. As always, CLTC figures—the ranges measured under China’s vehicle testing cycle—and manufacturer data depend heavily on test conditions. In Europe, they should be treated as guidelines rather than guarantees of real-world performance.

Driver assistance and cockpit: MG’s LiDAR debut and powerful infotainment hardware

MG is positioning the MG 07 as a technology showcase. According to the manufacturer, it is the first MG model with LiDAR and the brand’s first vehicle with a driver-assistance system based on a “World Model” approach. It uses a platform from Momenta combined with a chip designed for large AI models.

Inside, MG emphasizes powerful computing and entertainment hardware: a Qualcomm 8295P processor for the infotainment system, a 15.6-inch central display with 2.5K resolution, and a 21-speaker sound system (7.1.4). A “Zero Gravity” front passenger seat is also listed as a comfort feature.

Market context: Chinese specifications are not EU specifications, but they send a clear signal

In China, the MG 07 faces strong competition, including models from BYD and Lynk & Co. For the DACH region, the key point is how quickly 800-volt technology, LiDAR, and large displays are becoming commonplace in the midsize segment. Similar technology trends can currently be seen among other manufacturers, including new 800-volt platforms across various vehicle segments.

Li Auto Mega 2 Reveals Living-Room Interior: What We Know

Li Auto is apparently preparing the next Mega and has shared the first photo of its redesigned interior, which looks more like a lounge than a conventional van. A filing with Chinese authorities has also revealed key specifications such as dimensions, power output and sensors ahead of time. Battery capacity remains the main unknown, but the Mega series’ fast-charging performance will once again be of particular interest.
