MG 07 Launches in China With 10,000 Orders in 2 Minutes

The MG 07 has made a lightning-fast start in China, surpassing 10,000 binding orders in under two minutes. The high proportion of long-range versions stands out, prompting MG to ramp up its supply chain early. For Europe, this is primarily an indication of just how intense the pricing pressure and pace of development in China’s electric sedan segment have become.

MG 07 Sets Order Record: 10,000 Firm Orders in 1 Minute and 57 Seconds

MG has opened the order books for its new MG 07 sedan in China and immediately made a major statement: After 1 minute and 57 seconds, the company had received more than 10,000 binding orders. That puts the MG 07 well ahead of the brand’s previous benchmark, which the MG4 took around 40 minutes to reach.

One important distinction is that these are firm orders, not merely non-binding reservations. In practice, this typically means that customers lock in their configurations and stricter cancellation rules apply, making the figure a considerably more reliable indicator of demand.

Strong Demand for Long-Range Models Puts Pressure on the Supply Chain

Alongside rapidly reaching the 10,000-order mark, MG has also reported high preorder figures: 45,000 on the first day, followed shortly afterward by 59,000. Even more interesting than the total volume, however, is the product mix, as many buyers are apparently opting for the long-range version.

According to MG, more than 45% of orders are for versions offering over 800 km of range under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). This is significantly above internal expectations and reflects a common pattern in the Chinese market: If the price is right, buyers are often happy to order the highest specification available, provided delivery times do not spiral out of control.

Top BEV: 845 km CLTC, 91 kWh, 800 Volts and 5C Charging

At the top of the all-electric lineup, the MG 07 features a 91-kWh battery from CATL, an 800-volt platform and 5C fast charging. Its maximum CLTC range is 845 km. For context, CLTC figures are generally considerably more optimistic than Europe’s WLTP standard, so the corresponding European figures would be noticeably lower. Nevertheless, the technological direction is clear: MG is positioning the 07 as a long-distance sedan focused on short charging stops.

MG’s intention to ramp up the supply chain early fits this strategy: During the first week after preorders opened, management reportedly requested additional battery capacity from CATL, including further production lines. This is also a response to previous experience, when insufficient production ramp-ups for other models resulted in longer waiting times.

BEV and Plug-in Hybrid: Seven Versions and Time-Limited Launch Prices

The MG 07 is offered in China in seven versions, including both BEV and plug-in hybrid models. For the all-electric versions, MG quotes CLTC ranges of 610 km, 650 km and 845 km. The plug-in hybrid is expected to provide an electric CLTC range of 245 km and a combined range of 1,745 km.

The prices are being advertised as time-limited launch offers. These Chinese prices cannot be transferred directly to the DACH region—Germany, Austria and Switzerland—but they clearly demonstrate how aggressively MG is targeting the segment in its home market.

What Does “800 Volts” Mean in Everyday Use?

The benefits of 800-volt systems are most noticeable when both the charging infrastructure and the battery are up to the task: At compatible high-power charging stations, the car can maintain high charging power more consistently, reducing charging time. The peak figure matters less than how long the system can sustain that power without the battery throttling it due to temperature or cell chemistry.

Deliveries: Long-Range Version Arrives Later, and That Is Where the Risk Lies

MG plans to stagger the start of deliveries in China depending on the version. The 650-km model is expected to enter production earlier, while the 845-km version will follow later. This is a typical setup: Demand often focuses on the most attractive combination of range and technology, but that version is also the most challenging to produce, partly because of battery and cell availability.

Whether the MG 07 can convert the hype into actual sales volume will therefore depend primarily on its supply chain and delivery speed. With an order launch on this scale, success depends not only on the product but also on how quickly the manufacturer can work through the wave of backlogged orders.

Why This Is Relevant to Europe as Well

The MG 07 is launching in one of the world’s most competitive sedan markets, which is precisely what makes it interesting. A strong launch demonstrates how quickly platforms, batteries and charging architectures are advancing, as well as how aggressively manufacturers are scaling through pricing and equipment levels.

For Europe, this means that competitive pressure in the midsize segment will remain high, including for established models and Tesla. Anyone considering a vehicle in this segment should look beyond advertised range figures and compare charging performance, efficiency and real-world long-distance capabilities. Our article on the MG 07 electric sedan with 800-volt technology also provides a useful overview of MG’s aggressive pricing strategy in the European context.

Assessment: Order Records Are Impressive, but They Do Not Automatically Equal Deliveries

An exceptionally fast start to orders is a positive sign, but it is no substitute for the hard metric of actual deliveries. In China in particular, launch phases are often shaped by marketing, limited-time introductory prices and highly dynamic demand. What ultimately matters is whether delivery times remain stable and customers follow through with their purchases.

Overall, the MG 07 appears to be a very serious challenge to the electric sedan segment: It offers extensive range, a modern charging architecture and a sales operation that has already been geared toward growth behind the scenes.

Tesla Model Y L Range Official: EPA Rating Beats Tesla’s Estimate

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published the official range ratings for the Tesla Model Y L Premium AWD, and they exceed Tesla’s original figures in the configurator. Particularly striking is the small loss of range when switching from 19- to 20-inch wheels. This makes the stretched, three-row Model Y look more efficient than many had expected.
