Denza N8L launches as an all-electric six-seater
BYD’s premium brand Denza is adding an all-electric powertrain to the N8L. The 5.20-meter-long luxury SUV was previously available only as a plug-in hybrid and now gains a 130.15 kWh battery along with an 800-volt architecture.
Two BEV trim levels are available in China. The N8L Flash Charging Prestige costs 299,800 yuan, while the Flagship version is priced at 329,800 yuan. This means the electric vehicle even starts below the current plug-in hybrid in the Chinese market, although differences in equipment must be taken into account.

Large Blade Battery meets 800 volts
The second generation of the Blade Battery is installed under the floor, with a capacity of 130.15 kWh. A single electric motor on the rear axle produces up to 370 kW. The combination of a large battery and rear-wheel drive is intended to deliver a CLTC range of 960 km.
China’s CLTC test cycle generally produces more optimistic results than Europe’s WLTP. The 960 km figure therefore cannot be translated directly into European standardized figures or highway range. Nevertheless, the battery size shows that Denza is clearly positioning the N8L as a long-distance SUV.
The electric vehicle’s 800-volt architecture reduces the current required at high charging power and therefore heat losses in cables and power electronics. However, the interaction between the vehicle, battery temperature, and a compatible charging station is crucial.
From 10% to 97% in nine minutes
At dedicated Flash Charging stations, the Denza N8L is claimed to charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. BYD quotes nine minutes for charging from 10% to 97%. Details of the exact charging curve and the ideal conditions required have not yet been provided.
The short charging time is technically impressive, but its usefulness in everyday life depends directly on the availability of compatible high-power charging stations.
By the end of August, BYD had installed 10,000 such charging points in China and planned to double that number by the end of the year. Expanding the BYD Flash Charging network is therefore a key part of the product strategy. Models such as the BYD Seal 06 with the new Flash Battery also use the technology.
For Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, this charging performance currently has limited relevance. Even if the N8L were to come to Europe, it would be necessary to determine what charging power it can achieve at existing CCS fast chargers and whether BYD will also build its dedicated stations outside China.
5.20 meters long with a surprisingly tight turning circle
The electric N8L retains the dimensions of the plug-in hybrid. The SUV measures 5.20 meters long, just under 2.00 meters wide, and 1.82 meters high. The wheelbase is 3.08 meters, and the interior has six seats in a 2+2+2 configuration.
Rear-wheel steering reduces the stated turning radius to 4.58 meters. This should be particularly noticeable in parking garages and narrow city centers, as vehicles of this size quickly become unwieldy without steerable rear wheels.
The chassis includes the DiSus-A system, dual-chamber air suspension, and electronically controlled CDC dampers. This allows the vehicle to adjust the suspension to its load and the driving situation, which is intended to improve comfort and body control in a heavy six-seater.
208 liters of storage under the hood
Because there is no combustion engine, the space under the hood becomes an electrically opening storage compartment with a capacity of 208 liters. The frunk also has a closable drain opening, making it easier to rinse out.
For families, this is more than a technical gimmick. Wet charging cables, sandy beach gear, or dirty camping equipment can be carried separately from the cabin. Especially when all six seats are occupied, the additional storage space offers a genuine everyday benefit.
LiDAR and assistance features for city and highway driving
The N8L is equipped with the LiDAR-based God’s Eye 5.0 assistance system. It supports navigation-assisted driving on highways and in cities, as well as automated parking maneuvers.
However, this remains a driver-assistance system rather than a fully autonomous vehicle. Its range of functions, regulatory approval, and map coverage are also specific to China. A potential European version could therefore have a different set of software features.
What the Denza N8L means for Europe
A European launch has not yet been confirmed for the N8L. The Chinese list prices also cannot be transferred directly to the DACH region—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—because of taxes, transportation costs, homologation, and differences in equipment.
Technically, however, the N8L makes a strong statement. A 130 kWh battery, 800-volt architecture, extremely fast charging, six full-size seats, and a large frunk combine to create an unusually comprehensive long-distance package. If Denza brings the SUV to Europe, the WLTP figure, CCS charging curve, and final price will be the key factors.
